The Basics

How Predators Work

Wolves and bears will attack when you get too close while in line of sight. Wolves will detect you from much further away than bears. Once a predator detects you, it will turn toward you and start advancing.

When it gets close enough, the predator will charge you and attack. But it's possible to keep your distance and get away, even after it notices you. Avoid confrontations by:

  • Running away (sprint if you can)
  • Dropping a decoy (meat or guts from your inventory) to distract it
  • Waving a flare or flaming brand (from a fire)
